Lyrics
The Christmas Donkey ("A Donkey's Christmas Carol")
Along the road to Bethlehem, the people are making their way
The children of David are going home, Caesar's decree to obey
Among them a carpenter and his wife, Oh she is heavy with child
And I am their donkey my love for them I cannot hide
Chorus:
My master is chaste and strong
My lady gentle, fair
She bears a Child who is Truth and Light
And He will save the world from sin and despair
My master hugs me around the neck and whispers into my ear
"Steady, young friend, and watch your step, you know that your cargo is dear."
Then he lifts his wife onto my back, and walks by my side on the trail
While the song in my heart, echoes through each hill and vale
Repeat Chorus
With a new star lighting the sky this night, we arrive weary and worn
The ancient prophet spoke long ago, that this is where He'd be born
In David's city we are content, although there's no room at the inn
For this very night will be born the Infant God King
Bridge:
And so in a stable where cattle feed,
where comfort and warmth there is none
An ox and myself are resting near
when My Lady gives birth to her Son
Some shepherds arrive to see the Babe, an angel has told them the place
My Lady's Son is well pleased with them, you can see the smile on His face
To all who are searching for Truth and Light, He pours out His loving grace
And all with a childlike heart, He longs to embrace
Repeat Chorus

Stumblin’ out of bed, I kneel down and thank You Lord for one more day
One more day to live, one more chance to give my heart along the way
Sometimes I’d rather crawl back into bed
But then the thought of You runs through my head
And there is nothing in the world I'd rather do
Than spend another day just serving You
Chorus:
Every moment of my life is a prayer for You, Lord
Every moment of my life is a prayer for You
I give You my joy, I give You my pain
I give You my love and all that remains
In my heart. It’s all for You
Walkin’ down the street, sayin’ “Hi” to people who are passing me by
Some will say “Hello”; some try not to notice or just look at the sky
If only they could see beyond the blue
To the place where the angels dwell with You
Maybe then they’d realize what life's about
And just like me they’d want to sing or dance and shout
Repeat Chorus
I get home from work, prepare a little dinner, and turn on the news
I call up some old friends, but soon the evening ends and I kick off my shoes
But before I lay down my weary head
There are still a few more words that must be said
So I get down on my knees again to pray
And thank You Lord for giving me just one more day
Repeat Chorus

Going Home
The doctor said, there's no more use in trying
She's got about eight months, maybe nine
Grandma said "I'm not afraid of dying.
I just want to see my family one more time."
Grandpa couldn't keep from crying
She was his bride, his love, his brightest sunshine
She tried to calm his sorrow and his fear
She took his hand and whispered in his ear
Chorus:
I'm not going away, I'm going home
To a place that's been waiting for me and you
I'm not going away, I'm going home
Someday, you'll be going home too.
Someday, you'll be going home too.
The family all came home again that summer
I was just a young teenage kid
When we arrived I ran over to greet her
Not knowing what to say or where to begin
Her hug was still as soft and warm as ever
When a tear of mine fell against her skin
She tried to calm my sorrow and my fear
She took my hand and whispered in my ear
Repeat Chorus
Some years had passed when I went to visit Grandpa
They said he was dying of a broken heart
His eyes were dim, he could no longer walk
but his mind was clear and his memory still sharp
I asked how he fell in love with Grandma
He just smiled and said he knew it from the start
He poured out his memories of the girl he still adored
Her beautiful brown eyes, her letters during the War
I saw how much he longed for the girl that he once wed
So when he died a short month later, I knew he must have said
Repeat Chorus

Home Schooling Blues
No, I don't ride on a schoolbus, I only have to roll out of bed
And instead of some dumb uniform, I can wear my pajamas instead
You may think I've got it easy, but home schooling's messin' with my head
I'm number one in my class, and that's where I'll always be,
'Cuz no matter how bad my grades are, I'm still at the top of the heap
You may think I've got it easy, but home schooling's makin' me weep
I've read the Oxford Dictionary preparing for the spelling bee
I can quote entire chapters from the Iliad and Odyssey
You may think I've got it easy, but home schooling ain't my cup of tea
I am the class President, and the captain of the football team
I was voted homecoming king, and most likely to succeed
You may think I've got it easy, but home schooling's makin' me scream
I'll probably go to Harvard or Stanford or MIT
I'm in the 99th percentile on the SAT and ACT
You may think I've got it easy, but home schooling nauseates me

How Many Times
How many times before you let me go
How many times before the wounds no longer heal
How many times must I break your heart
Before you just give up and let me slip away
Chorus:
You were always faithful, you were always true
All the times I tried to roam, you would not let me go
You would not desert me, you always brought me home
And like a cross you had to bear, you would not let me go
You would not let me go
How many times have you forgiven me
How many times have you saved me from myself
How many times have you rescued me
So many times your love has brought me to my knees
Repeat Chorus

I Still Miss You So
Based on "Quiet Country" (instrumental) by Kevin Sconiers
The first robin of spring was bouncing in our yard today
Making her nest with little twigs and hay
But I thought of you and how you made this house a home
I still miss you so
I burned supper tonight distracted by a thunderstorm
Rememb'ring the time I couldn't open our car door
And how much you laughed as we got caught in that downpour
I still miss you so
Chorus:
It seems like yesterday when we said "I do."
When I had you to hold, oh how time flew
We promised our love until death do us part
Well the love is still strong in this broken heart
I'm doing the best I can without you here
Everything reminds me that you're still near
I always thought that I would be the first to go
I still miss you so
Repeat Chorus

Oh, Featherock!
On a little piece of Texas, where twisted live oaks grow
You can find what you've been needing for your body and your soul
It's a place out in the country, where the cows are all polite
And the big blue sky surrounds you 'til the stars come out a night
Chorus:
Oh, Featherock! My sweet Featherock!
Leave your troubles behind when you enter through her gate
Oh, Featherock! My sweet Featherock!
An oasis in the middle of the Lone Star state
There's salsa on the table, a pool in the backyard
Which feels refreshing after playing hoops out in the barn
The neighbors all are friendly, and wave as they drive by
You'll always find a big Texan smile whenever you say "Hi"
Repeat Chorus
In the spring blue bonnets blossom, while the scent of their perfume
Calls the hummingbirds and butterflies to collect their morning dew
And when you hear the wind blow through the oaks, pecans, and pines
It's the voice of God reminding you He is always by your side
Repeat Chorus

Sunshine Girl
Chorus:
Will you be my one and only? Will you be my sunshine girl?
Will you be my one and only? My one devotion, my valentine girl
Come on, baby, be my sunshine girl.
Come on, baby, be my sunshine girl.
Whenever clouds would gather round me,
You were there to always make things bright
When I was lost, you always found me
You were the sunshine in my darkest night
Your smiling face would make my heart take flight.
There’s no other girl a round can move me,
The way you catch me with that look in your eye
Since the first time that your smile unglued me.
My heart flutters like a butterfly,
For my affection, no more women need apply.
I don’t know what I’ve done to make you mad at me, like I do now and then
But I would do anything to see that smile on your face
To hear that song in your voice, to watch you dancing for joy,
To see you happy again.
Repeat Chorus
You were more than a breath of fresh air, girl
When you walked into my life one day
When I’m with you, I’m a millionaire, girl
For all the kindness and love you send my way
And now I’m trying hard to find the words to say
Please forgive me for my clumsy ways, girl,
I’ll make it right, just tell me where to begin
I bought some candy and a fresh bouquet, girl
She looked at me and then she started to grin
My heart was jumping, she was laughing again. Ooh . . .
I don’t know what I’ve done to take the hurt away. It’s a mystery to us men
But I would do it again to see that smile on her face
To hear that song in her voice, to watch her dancing for joy,
To see her happy again.
Final Chorus and Tag:
Now she is still my one and only
She is still my sunshine girl
She is still my one and only
My one devotion, my valentine girl
She is still my one and only
She is still my sunshine girl
She is still my one and only
My better half, my little valentine girl
Yeah, baby, you’re my sunshine girl.
Yeah, baby, you’re my sunshine girl.
You will always be my sunshine girl.

That's When You Know It's Time
When you're searching for something, but you don't know what it is
You just know there must be a better way
In the center of your soul lies a hunger that runs deep
A yearning for your night to turn into day
And then the sun breaks through the morning mist
And the heart no longer can resist
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time to give in
That's when you know its time to begin
When your hidden ghosts come back to remind you of your past
so you long for a quiet place to live
When the path is overgrown full of weeds and sharp thorns
Yet inside you there is nothing more to give
And though the sun may shine, the cold remains
And the heart feels bound by shackles and chains
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time to do what's right
That's when you know its time to keep up the fight
Bridge:
You saw the light once clearly, but now it seems so dim
Yet a voice inside keeps whisp'ring you'll get it back again
Though it’s just a faded memory, you hold on just the same
And when you blow away the ashes the coals burst into flame
As your life begins to fade and your spirit wants to run
like a thundering thoroughbred so swift
All the choices you made All the promises you kept
make you realize everything was a gift
And now the sun and moon begin to dance
And the heart feels wounded by the lance
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time
That's when you know its time to say goodbye
That's when you know its time to fly
